Why practices choose Veterian over IDEXX Cornerstone
Server-based by design, and IDEXX says so on the tin
Cornerstone's product page opens "Integrated, server-based veterinary software", and the products index calls it "Highly versatile server-based software". That is unusually clear labelling, and it is the row above where the two products genuinely differ rather than one where we are reading between the lines.
It is a tradeoff, not a shortcoming. A server in the building means the software is as fast as the building's own network, the practice's data sits on hardware the practice controls, and nothing depends on the connection to the street. What it also means is that the server is yours: to buy, to back up, to patch and eventually to replace. IDEXX lists a data backup and recovery service among Cornerstone's integrations, which tells you the same thing from the other side — that is work somebody has to own.
Diagnostics, and where the tie is worth having
Cornerstone's page leads with "Unmatched integration with the IDEXX diagnostics you use every day", and its integration list is long: in-house analysers, reference laboratories, Web PACS, telemedicine consultants, online ordering. If your practice already runs on IDEXX equipment, ordering, results and images landing in the record without anyone retyping them is a real day-to-day saving.
That alignment is a reason to stay rather than a reason to leave, and it is the first thing we would ask about. Veterian holds lab results and imaging in the patient file and integrates on the Enterprise plan, but we do not claim parity with a diagnostics company's integration into its own analysers, and the matrix above does not either.
What each of us publishes about price
IDEXX publishes no price, no trial terms and no migration terms for Cornerstone on its product pages. That is ordinary for this category — most vendors in the table quote nothing — and it means the only way to learn the number is to ask them for it.
Veterian's plans are on our own pricing page: €29, €59 and €89 a month, two months free on annual billing, a 14-day trial, and migration included on every plan. We compare on whether a price is published rather than on whose is lower, because our plans are in euros and priced per practice, and a per-vet quote from an American vendor is not the same number in a different currency.
Moving years of history off a server
We move your data free, on any plan: patient records, client balances, vaccination history and stock, mapped field by field and checked with you before you go live.
This is the part practices put off, and understandably — the longer a server has been running, the more there is on it. It is also the part we would rather price at nothing, because a migration fee that scales with how much history you have is a charge for the thing that makes leaving hard in the first place.
