Veterian vs Instinct

Instinct is built for emergency and specialty hospitals. Veterian is built for general practice — and which room you work in decides most of this before any feature does.

Veterian and Instinct side by side

Every Instinct entry below is taken from Instinct’s own published pages and linked underneath, with the date we read it. Where a capability is not documented publicly, the table says so rather than assuming it is missing. A cross in the Instinct column appears only where Instinct states the answer on the page the footnote links to.

Why practices choose Veterian over Instinct

Two products, two different rooms

Instinct's own pages name emergency and specialty hospitals, urgent care, corporate groups and teaching hospitals as who it is for. The product follows: digital treatment and anaesthesia sheets, a real-time status board, dosing calculators and a drug reference built for a shift handover on a hospital floor.

Veterian is general practice software — appointments, records, the vaccination calendar, stock, invoicing and reporting, built to be fast on the day a clinic actually has. If you run a general practice, that is the product you are buying, and the rows below compare the two on that ground.

Where the comparison is actually live

Instinct now publishes a primary-care version, so a general practice may well see both products. On that ground the questions are ordinary ones: what does it cost, how long until the team is competent, and what happens to your history when you move.

Veterian answers all three publicly — €29, €59 and €89 a month, a 14-day free trial, and migration free on every plan. Instinct publishes no price and no trial that we could find.

Built for a practice without an IT department

Client details, the patient profile, past visits and notes sit on one screen. A medical record is created in the SOAP format your team already thinks in. A payment is recorded in a single step. AI dictation drafts the note so the writing-up does not follow the vet home.

We would rather be the software a new nurse can use properly in a week than the one with the longer feature list.

Frequently asked questions

They are built for different rooms. Instinct's published markets are emergency, specialty, urgent care and teaching hospitals, and its core is treatment sheets, anaesthesia monitoring and clinical safety checks. Veterian is built for general practice.

The table above compares them row by row anyway, with each Instinct entry linked to its source, because Instinct also publishes a primary-care product and some practices will genuinely be choosing between the two.

Trademarks and methodology

Instinct and all associated names, marks and logos are the property of their respective owners. Veterian is not affiliated with, authorised by, sponsored by or endorsed by them, and their marks are used here only to identify the products being compared.

These pages are published for veterinary practices in English-speaking markets.

This comparison reflects information published by each vendor on its own website, read on the dates given beside each source and reviewed on 9 September 2026. Vendors change their products and their documentation without notice, so entries may be out of date. Where a vendor does not publish information about a capability we record it as “Not published”; we do not treat silence as evidence that a capability is absent.

If you believe an entry misrepresents your product, write to support@veterian.com and we will correct it.
